Assam is catching up the pace in terms of power production and clean energy promotion.

Moving its green energy initiative forward, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday laid the foundation stone of a 70 MW Solar Park at Japisajia village of Amguri in Sibsagar district.

Spanning over an area of 340 acre, the Solar Park will have production life of 25 years and provide facilities for research and development in the field of solar energy, ET reported.

The solar power project would give a new impetus to the state government’s avowed goal of making Assam self-sufficient in terms of power production, Chief Minister Sonowal said in a meeting held on the occasion.

Assam government has set a target of 6500 MW power capacity by 2030, and Sonowal said that this goal could be achieved only through leveraging power production capacity of the state.
