In present times, breathing clean air has become more of a luxury than anything else. With the current pandemic, the need for safe air is more important than ever before. LUFTQI Rice Ear is trying to make that possible through their portable air purifiers, which they say are just efficient as their bulky counterparts. EFY spoke to Titus Chang, Marketing Director & Co-Founder of Rice Ear to know more about their unique product, what sets it apart from similar products and how they wish to enter the Indian market.

Q. Tell us a little about Rice Ear.

A. LUFTQI Rice Ear is a Taiwanese electronics company with subsidiaries in the United States. We are a fairly new company, having begun our business operations in 2018.

Our main goal is to purify the air that we breathe with a slogan that reads “good air, anytime and everywhere”.

Q. Can you share some details about its leadership team?

A. Titus Chang, Marketing Director & Co-Founder of Rice Ear and Morgan Song, R&D Director & Co-Founder.


Q. How do you define your product category(s) to customers and what is your latest offering?

A. Our products are part of the portable air purifier category. In line with the company’s air purifiers production, LUFTQI has launched a new air purifier, LUFT Duo.

The LUFT Duo is a small air purifier that uses SSP Nanotechnology, Titanium Oxide, and LED to trap pollen, dust, pathogens, bad odour, and mould molecules. It’s a smaller version of LUFTQI’s previous air purifier model, LUFT Cube, standing at only 240 square feet.

Q. What is the USP (unique strength) of your products?

A. The biggest edge of our air purifiers over other ones is the size and portability of our product. The LUFT Duo is very easy to handle and move around and can be used in almost every kind of space, whether it is a big room or a car. You can also use it to clear out bad odour from pets in the house, protect newborns from air pollutants, and purify the air during wildfires. Its compact size but high efficiency makes it a desirable product for customers to ensure that their environment is germ-free.

Q. Why do you think this product is the right match for the Indian market?

A. The high portability of our products make it a perfect match for any market. With regards to India, given the current pandemic and high levels of pollution that exists in the air, we think our purifiers can do a very good job at providing cleaner and safer air for people to breathe.

Q. Are you exporting to any other country outside Taiwan and mainland China? What is the revenue from exports?

A. We are exporting to several countries like the US, UK, Brazil and so on. For that matter, the US forms a large part of our export revenue.

Q. Do you have plans to set up operations in India any time soon?

A. We haven’t been doing business with India yet, but we do plan to start very soon.

Q. Besides B2B Customers, are you also looking for Agents (distributors, channel partners, etc) in India too?

A. Yes, we are actively looking for agents and partners to help sell our products in India. We would like to engage with partners who have worked with similar products before and have a good product portfolio, but we are not just looking for big names. We are willing to partner with any small firm too, provided they can effectively help us distribute our products in India.

Q. What is your vision for LUFTQI Rice Ear and on a global operation where does India feature in your plans?

A. We want to stand by our goal of providing safe and clean air for people everywhere they are and want to be able to expand our operations to several countries to achieve that goal. In that sense, India is an important country we want to touch base on.
