With the manufacturing policy set to become a reality by the end of September 2011, various companies catering to different sectors, such as consumer and industrial electronics, telecom equipment, computers and solar energy, are gearing up to expand their production facilities in India. Once effective, the policy will unlock the true potential of manufacturing within the country.
The mushrooming production facilities will help boost the development of many other sectors like tools and equipment, test and measurement devices, SMT and through-hole machines, etc.
The new policy aims to increase the share of the Indian manufacturing sector from 16 per cent of the country’s GDP to over 25 per cent by 2022. The government is also hoping to create at least 100 million additional jobs over the next 10 years, across the country.
This column features the companies that are setting up manufacturing facilities in India or are expanding their existing plants. Do follow this space every month to know about the latest developments in this domain.
