- BMTC is procuring 300 EVs under FAME II-this year
- BESCOM is set to inaugurate 126 charging units across Bengaluru city
According to a report by the Economic Times, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) will procure only electric buses from 2022. The report said that BMTC managing director C Shikha said that it is looking at converting its fleet into EV by 2030. to achieve this, BMTC will start procuring only EVs from 2022.
The report said that BMTC is procuring 300 EVs under FAME II-this year. It will procure 500 more for the next financial year. C Shikha also added that tender for 90 EV feeder buses is already out. BMTC is also setting up four charging stations at bus depots.
126 charging units across the city
According to the report, C K Sreenath, deputy general manager, Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM), said that it is set to inaugurate 126 charging units across Bengaluru city. He added that out of this, 26 will be quick charging units which take relatively lesser time.
Sreenath also added that the current requirement of power for EVs is just 0.0001 per cent. If by 2030, 50 per cent of the vehicular population of Bengaluru gets converted to EV, the energy requirement will be less than 10 per cent.
