Nokia Bags 4G Equipment Contract From Vodafone Idea

Nokia said these deployments will enable Vodafone Idea Ltd (VIL) subscribers to enjoy higher-bandwidth applications and services.

Finnish telecom gear-maker Nokia has won a contract to supply 4G equipment to Vodafone Idea Ltd across its multiple service areas. 

A joint statement issued by the two companies on Monday said Nokia will deploy telecom equipment including Single RAN Advanced, massive Multiple Input Multiple Output (m-MIMO) and small cells as part of the agreement. The statement did not give financial details of the contract. 

Advantages derived out of the contract
Nokia informed that these deployments will enable VIL subscribers to enjoy higher-bandwidth applications and services, reported Economic Times.

Vishant Vora, chief technology officer at VIL, said that Vodafone Idea is undertaking the world’s biggest telecom network integration in India and creating India’s most advanced, secure and cost-efficient network. He further commented that the extensive use of UBRs, DSRs, m-MIMOs and HetNets are key to Vodafone’s plan in this integration exercise.

Nokia said its Single RAN solution will enable Vodafone Idea to simplify its network installation and management. The deployment of m-MIMO technology will enhance capacity and speed, while the installation of Nokia’s small cells will supplement operator’s macro network and ensure improved coverage and capacity, both indoors and outdoors, in line with the HetNet architecture to enable their next generation networks. 

Vodafone Idea is also deploying dynamic spectrum sharing (DSR) to make the optimum use of spectrum and is extensively utilising UBR radios to further lower operational expenses per site and ease the deployment challenges.
