TDK’s CeraCharge is a rechargeable surface mount device (SMD) and is the first all-ceramic solid-state battery of the world. The battery doesn’t depend on liquid electrolyte that are primarily used for batteries. In its place, the product charges and discharges with the help of a ceramic solid electrolyte to provide high level of safety and remove the possible risks of explosion and fire.

Incorporated with advanced technology

CeraCharge is a solid-state battery that is incorporated with advanced copper electrode technology, which is developed by TDK. It also utilises a multilayer technology which is similar to that used in many passive components. The product can be namaged in the similar way as the chip-type passive components while mounting on boards, thus help in reducing cost of production of electronic devices.

TDK’s CeraCharge is recognised by Nikkei as it can be charged and discharged from several dozen times to 1,000 times with no considerable performance loss. In addition, the battery can be used for longer periods of time without maintenance.

In order to meet the needs of a comprehensive variety of consumer electronic devices, TDK is also planning to augment the development of all-ceramic solid-state battery – CeraCharge in a variety of sizes and capacities.
