The Telangana State Electricity Regulatory Commission (TSERC) has approved the construction of a 2 MW rooftop solar project on a net metering basis.
Mercom India reported that the decision was issued after TSERC reviewed a petition filed by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL). The project will be developed in a net metering manner at the Telangana site of HAL under the Renewable Energy Services Corporation (RESCO) model.
According to the net metering regulations of Telangana, the capacity of the state’s grid-connected rooftop solar photovoltaic project cannot exceed 1 MW. To ensure the smooth development of the 2 MW solar project, HAL has requested TSERC to provide guidance on this matter.
In reviewing the petition, the Commission observed a distribution company (DISCOM), and the state government or authorities could seek to approve more than 1 megawatt of rooftop solar PV projects.
It also observed that refusal of the request would also obstruct the implementation of the target fixed by the central government for the public sector unit (PSU), and HAL has made out a case for approval of the project and the request of the petitioner has been granted.
The approval has been approved in view of the fact that the petitioner is a PSU subordinate to the Ministry of Defence and is determined by the central government. Â
