The electricity distribution company was targeting to achieve about 5 Mega Watt peak (MWp) of rooftop net metering from the area by the financial year 2019-2020, BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd said in a statement.

In addition to the JJ Clusters, various colonies come under the area of Shakur Basti such as Paschim Vihar and other apartment complexes such as Saakshara, IFCI, Matriyi, Navbharat, Priyadarshani, Pragati and DDA Flats, and has a considerable rooftop solar potential of approximately 15 MWp, the company said.

Commenting on the initiative, Amal Sinha, Chief Executive Officer, BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd, said, “Solar energy is emerging as an important tool in our quest for sustainable growth. In a bid to realise its full potential, BSES is leading the efforts for its wide-spread and accelerated adoption in the national capital.”

Phase 1 got huge response

Apart from promoting the adoption of solar power, the solar city initiative is a win-win scheme for consumers as well as the distribution companies. The phase one got huge response and the launch of second phase is an evidence to this, he said.

The first phase of the Solar City Initiative by BSES, Solarise Dwarka, was a huge success with about 100 residential societies expressing interest and signed up for installation of solar capacities of around 6 MWp, according to the statement.

Out of these societies, around 25 have already installed solar capacity of around 1.5 MWp and have been getting energy from the initiative or are about to be energised.
