Delhi Metro will now be using solar power produced in the world’s largest solar power plant, which is coming up in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has signed an agreement of procuring power from Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Project with Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited (RUMSL), a joint venture between Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam and Solar Energy Corporation of India in Delhi recently.
Recently, Indian Railways also announced the trail run of its first solar powered train in the country. The usage of green and renewable energy has been advocated by the central government in a big way and there is lot happening in the country surrounding solar power.
The 750 MW solar project is being developed as three units of 250 MW each. As per the pact, each unit developer (seller) will sign a power purchase agreement (PPA) with DMRC for 25 years from commercial operations date of the project.
According the National Solar Mission India has set a target of deploying 100 GW of solar energy in the country by the year 2022.
