itel Mobile, which is a part of Hong Kong based conglomerate Transsion Holdings is all set to make India its manufcaturing hub. The company has plans to set up three manufcaturing units in Noida, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. At the onset the company has plans to manufacture feature and smart phones in the country and by the end of this year, the conglomerate plans to bring two more brands to India.
According to Sudhir Kumar, CEO, itel Mobile India, the conglomerate is looking at making India their mobile manufacturing base because India is very cost-effective and soon this destination will play as a major export hub for Transsion Holdings. Kumar also said that the manufcaturing unit will only manufacture their own brands and will not act as an OEM for any other company. The company has already launched a feature and smart phone ranging from Rs 700 to Rs 10,000 in northern part of India since April 2016.
By the end of this year, the company plans to launch Tecno, its premium brand, and Infinix, which will be for online. As India is equidistant from both China and Africa, it makes greater sense to set up manufacturing here.
