Wednesday, December 31, 2014: The Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) and ESCO Company have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to replace the sodium and tube lights with LED lights. Nirmal Nahata, JMC mayor said that the everyday trouble faced by the city will be addressed by placing of energy saving LED (light emitting diode) lights.
He said that the project is based on a public private partnership (PPP) wherein the contract with the company has been signed for 10 years. It will replace 70,000 sodium and tube lights with required watts of LED lights within an year, which are regulated by JMC.
He told that JMC in total manages 0.197 million road lights in the city. The ESCO company will look after the lights for 10 years and after that it will be handed over to the JMC.
He further stated that the company will first replace around 15,000 lights by March next year on main roads like Jan Path, Vidhan Sabha, main markets, JLN, Tonk and others. Nahata further added, “ The project would not come as extra financial burden on JMC or state government as the lights will cut short electricity bills by 77.13per cent. Of the total share of saved electricity, 30.06 per cent will go to JMC and rest 70 per cent to the company. With the installation of these lights, Rs. 600 million will be saved during the next 10 years.
