Saturday, July 19, 2014: MNRE is in the process of building a policy, which will integrate all parts of renewable energy sector.

MNRE is reportedly working on a new integrated policy for renewable energy. The new policy by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy(MNRE) aims at guiding the states on the issue of inter state character said, Alok Srivastava, Joint Secretary, MNRE, on Thursday.

Addressing the 13th edition of the “Green Power 2014” international conference on renewable energy, which was organised by Confederation of Indian Industry(CII) held in Chennai, he added that policy will not instruct states to do something, but will help them in formulating the steps.

The investment potential in renewable energy sector in next five to six years is estimated to be around $16545.33 million. Current immediate need is to forge a great partnership with all national and international partners, industry expert at CII spoke.

Various state electricity boards were discussing and exchanging ideas about the power issue faced by almost every state, including the capital, Delhi. The supply mechanism will move rapidly owing to smart initiatives and investments in the industry.

Srivastava added that there were still issues that should be addressed and MNRE has been working with industry and union ministers should resolve the issues laid in front of them, in order to march forward. “Some of the problems and bottlenecks have to be addressed at the national level to explore the possibilities of renewable energy. A new law supporting such energy should be enacted to address the policy and regulatory. There should be a strict implementation on purchase of renewable energy across the states”, said Ramesh Kymal, Renewable Energy Council, CII- Godrej GBC.

Other recommendations addressed at challenges of power evacuation and inconsistencies in tariff norms in state for wind power and introduction of minimal charge for renewable energy transmission.
