Friday, May 02, 2014: The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) is reaching new heights each day. In a recent development, the public sector unit’s (PSU) 50 MW solar power plant at Raigarh, Chhattisgarh is now fully operational, it announced. NTPC’s total capacity of non-conventional energy projects now sums up to 95 MW with this latest achievement.
“With commencement of commercial operations of 20 MW solar unit today, the capacity of Rajgarh solar photo-voltaic (PV) plant has become 50 MW,” NTPC was quoted in a statement. NTPC holds the distinction of being India’s largest power producer, boasting an installed capacity of 43,039 MW.
NTPC recently “vowed to raise the amount of energy it generates from renewable resources as it aims to diversify away from conventional fuels including coal because of insufficient domestic supplies, which have forced it to buy costly imports.” Keeping this in mind it announced it was all set to commission the commercial operations at its three new solar power plants, soon. The plant at Rajgarh is one of these.
