Under new leadership, MAIT to focus on domestic manufacturing and address existing challenges for the industry

Friday, November 01, 2013: MAIT, the apex body representing India’s IT hardware, training and R&D services sectors today, appointed its new President, Mr. Amar Babu, Managing Director, Lenovo India and the new Vice- President, Ms. Debjani Ghosh, Managing Director (Sales & Marketing), Intel South Asia, during its 30th Annual General Meeting for the term of 2013- 14. 

A Management Post Graduate from XLRI, Jamshedpur, Amar Babu holds an Engineering degree in Electrical & Electronics from PSG Tech, Coimbatore. He has over 17 years of experience with more than 10 years in various leadership roles. He was serving as the Vice- President of MAIT for 2012- 13. 

On the other hand, Ms. Debjani Ghosh has been the Managing Director of Sales and Marketing Operations for South Asia at Intel Technology India Pvt. Ltd. since January 1, 2012. Ms. Ghosh served as Chief Executive Officer of Intel Malaysia and Director of Intel Groups Southeast Asia at Intel Corporation. Ms. Ghosh served as Director of Sales and Marketing for Southeast Asia at Intel Technology India Pvt. Ltd. until December 2011. She has been with Intel for 18 years.

The outgoing President J V Ramamurthy said, “We are honoured to have Mr Amar Babu as the President and Ms. Debjani Ghosh as the Vice President of MAIT. With their knowledge and expertise, we are looking forward to their contribution towards the association’s commitment to the Indian IT hardware industry.” 

Expressing his gratitude, Mr Amar Babu, President MAIT, said, “I believe it is time that we should focus more on the ease of doing business and thereby attract more investment towards local manufacturing. Simultaneously, we need to work on the enablers that would drive demand in the country. In my new role, I would put in my best efforts to bring in the required changes.”

Expressing her views on the new role, the incoming Vice- President, Ms. Debjani Ghosh, said, “I am excited about my role and would try my best to work towards the achieving the objectives of MAIT, particularly during the current challenging times.”
