Three electronics clusters receive government approval

Saturday, August 31, 2013: On Friday, the Government of India provided approval to three projects to the tune of Rs 2 billion (Rs 200 crore) under the Electronic Manufacturing Clusters (EMC) scheme. The government received proposal from the Electronic Industries Association of India (ELCINA) and the Madhya Pradesh State Electronics Corporation (MPSEDC). ELCINA submitted application for a greenfield cluster worth Rs 1.0448 billion (Rs.104.48 crore) for Khushkhera in Bhiwadi (Rajasthan), whereas the MPSEDC sent applications for two projects worth Rs 464.6 million (Rs.46.46 crore) to be set up in Bhopal and Rs 429.2 Million (Rs.42.92) crore for Jabalpur.

According to government’s scheme, financial help would be limited to 50 per cent of the total project cost with a ceiling of Rs 500 Million (Rs 50 crore) for each 100 acres of land. A report from Business Line stated that assistance for Rs 474.1 million (Rs.47.41 crore) has been proposed by ELCINA covering an area of 100.7 acre of land. The Rajasthan Government through Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation, is providing support to the project. MPSEDC, an undertaking of the government of Madhya Pradesh has requested grant of Rs 222.6 million (Rs 22.26 crore) from the central government for over an area of 50 acres.

Moreover, it has also requested assistance for Rs 246.3 (Rs 24.63 crore) from the Central Government for setting up a greenfield EMC in Purva village, Jabalpur for an area of more than 40 acres. The project by ELCINA may reach completion by March 2015 and commercial operations may kick start from April 2015. Almost 14,000 people will be employed directly and 19,700 people indirectly. Companies are supposed to invest nearly Rs 12 billion (Rs 1,200 crore) in the project.
