Globally, solar energy is getting its much deserved attention. This interest is growing especially out of concern for future energy options, with traditional form of electricity fast depleting. As per latest figures revealed, India has attained a total cumulative capacity of 1,447MW for grid-connected solar PV.
The statistics were shared by the Indian Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) India, which mentioned that the nation added 210MW in February, taking the overall grid-connected solar deployed in this financial year to 505MW. The target that the country has set its eyes on is 800MW of new solar capacity by the end of the financial year, which ends this month.
For off-grid systems of more than 1kW in size, the MNRE did not supply figures for February, but its total deployment for 2012-2013 has reached 17.59MW. The country now has a cumulative capacity of 108MW, which has surpassed its 30MW target for 2013, PV Tech reported.
We had recently reported about a roadmap proposed by the MNRE, which talks about installing 10GW of additional PV capacity by 2017. Forecasts by Frost & Sullivan, business consulting organisation indicate that the Indian solar market will stand at US$2.05 billion in comparison to the US$1.05 billion last year.
