Altmin and WMG will collaborate to strengthen their global battery materials supply chain position by optimizing cathode materials and developing diverse cell designs across different form factors.

In an effort to enhance the global battery materials supply chain, Altmin India, a prominent manufacturer of Lithium-ion phosphate (LFP) and other cathode active materials, has entered into a collaboration agreement with WMG, University of Warwick in the UK. This partnership, facilitated through a research and development agreement, represents a significant step in Altmin’s journey to advance battery technology and solidify its position in the global battery materials supply chain.

Under the agreement, Altmin and WMG will collaborate closely to optimize cathode materials and develop various cell designs across different form factors. Professor Louis Piper and his team at WMG, who brings extensive experience and expertise in battery materials and cell development, are considered ideal partners for Altmin’s ambitious expansion plans. The collaboration will occur at WMG’s state-of-the-art facility at the Energy Innovation Centre, providing an ideal environment for innovation and research.

Altmin’s strategic integration of LFP technology with WMG’s capabilities marks a significant leap forward in the company’s mission to industrialize battery materials manufacturing on a giga-factory scale. Initially focusing on India, Altmin plans to expand its operations to the UK, Europe, and the USA, thereby contributing to the global advancement of battery technology.

Anjani Sri Mourya Sunkavalli, founder and Managing Director of Altmin, expressed excitement about the partnership with WMG, stating that it reinforces Altmin’s position as a key player in the global battery materials market. This collaboration is seen as more than just a business venture; it is a shared vision to make a positive impact. With WMG’s renowned research facilities and talented team, Altmin has the opportunity to explore new avenues and push the boundaries of what is possible in battery technology.

Professor Louis Piper, Professor of Battery Innovation at WMG, highlighted the renaissance of LFP and the pressing need to diversify supply chains and optimize next-generation LFP for increased cell demand. He expressed delight in partnering with Altmin to support their journey to advance battery technology in India and across the globe.

Through this strategic alliance, Altmin reaffirms its commitment to revolutionizing the energy storage landscape and accelerating the transition to a cleaner and more sustainable future.

Last month, Altmin announced that it had secured growth capital, which will be utilized to fund its first 3 GWh manufacturing facility. This transaction represents a significant milestone in India’s electric vehicle value chain.
