Japanese eVTOL-Maker SkyDrive Collaborates With Cyient, India for ‘SKYDRIVE’ UAM Project

Although this is SkyDrive’s first-ever collaboration with an Indian engineering firm, it is part of a series of announcements by Japanese firms entering partnerships in India.

SkyDrive Inc., Japanese eVTOL aircraft manufacturer, has teamed up with Cyient, engineering services and digital solutions company based in Hyderabad, India, to advance urban air mobility (UAM) concepts globally. 

The companies have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for joint technical collaboration on the cutting-edge eVTOL (electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing) project ‘SKYDRIVE.’The partnership represents SkyDrive’s first-ever collaboration with an Indian engineering firm, aiming to enhance multiple domains such as product development, engineering, manufacturing, and digital services.

At the signing ceremony at Cyient’s Hyderabad headquarters, Founder Chairman and Board Member of Cyient, BVR Reddy, Executive Director & CEO, Karthikeyan Natarajan, and SkyDrive CEO, Tomohiro Fukuzawa, marked a significant alliance in the future of mobility.

Tomohiro Fukuzawa expressed enthusiasm for partnering with Cyient, highlighting Cyient’s global presence and expertise in aerospace. This partnership will be instrumental in creating the first eVTOL technical publication manual, advancing the mobility revolution.

BVR Reddy emphasised the potential of ‘Engineered in India’ to contribute globally to Urban Air Mobility. He underscored the partnership’s role in enabling SkyDrive to leverage India’s engineering talent and technology through Cyient, serving the global UAM market, including India.

Karthikeyan Natarajan stated that by 2030, UAM could represent a $23 billion global opportunity. This partnership aligns with Cyient’s commitment to intelligent engineering for an autonomous future and underscores their leadership in urban mobility innovations in India.

This collaboration is part of a series of announcements by Japanese firms entering partnerships in India. Recently, SkyDrive entered into partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DST) in Gujarat, India focused on developing the necessary ecosystem for the social implementation of eVTOL aircraft in Gujarat.
