National Policy on Electronics will Boost R & D in Electronic Manufacturing

Sunday, August 26, 2012: Shri Sachin Pilot, Union Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology reviewed IT projects in Kerala today and said all aspects of Research and Development in Electronic Manufacturing will receive significant boost through the National Policy on Electronics. He said, the Cabinet has already approved financial support for the development of Electronic Manufacturing Clusters as well as Modified Special Incentive Package Scheme to attract investment in Electronic Systems Design and Manufacturing. The Minister said as a leader in adoption of IT, Kerala can take a lead in providing the right eco system for attracting fresh investments.

Sh Pilot informed that to ensure that IT adoption percolates to all levels of the Government, all 2235 Common Service Centres ( CSCs) have been made operational in Kerala in 152 Blocks through which 11 Govt. to Citizen Services and 7 Business to Citizen Services are being delivered.

The Minister also laid the foundation stone for a new process laboratory for Advanced Electro Ceramic Materials at Thrissur. The lab would be built at an estimated cost of Rs. 3.5 crores.

The Minister also visited a start-up village near Cochin, which is India’s first technology incubator set up in PPP mode, and said the Ministry is looking at supporting such incubators in other places as well. The Minister also said that research institutes and institutions of higher learning in Kerala are being connected to the National Knowledge Network for sharing academic resources and collaborative research. Of the 63 institutions identified, 35 have been commissioned and work on the remaining 28 is in progress.

The Minister also reviewed the functioning of the Postal Department in Kerala
