Ireland based Covidien Plc, a medical device maker is looking for local companies in India as a part of its expansion plans.
According to Business Line, the company is also planning to invest $11 billion in setting clinical training institutes and acquiring manufacturing capabilities in the country in addition to ramping up its distribution channel in a bid to expand its reach to tier 2 cities.
Incorporated in Dublin, Covidien makes devices used for various surgical applications including laparoscopy, stapling, soft tissue repair and respiratory and monitoring/sensors solutions. For 2011, it posted revenues of $11.6 billion and has 41,000 employees worldwide in more than 65 countries, and its products are sold in over 140 countries.
Covidien recently acquired BARRX Medical, Inc, a medical device company, that designs and develops endoscopic devices and accessories for treating Barrett’s esophagus for $325 million.
