In September 2013, Elektro Power Systems introduced a new solar LED home lighting system, which is specially designed for rural areas to give the maximum backup time. It comes as a package that includes a UPS system, two LED tubes measuring 30.48 cm (1 ft) each, one 38 cm (15 inch) fan, one 7.5 Ah battery and one 10W solar PV module. The system runs totally on DC, which avoids conversion losses and prevents the product from being misused. The battery gets charged both from solar energy and the mains automatically, and comes with a back-up time of four to six hours when on full load. It has protection against overcharge, battery deep discharge, overload, short circuits, etc.
