Volvo Trucks has successfully delivered eight heavy-duty electric trucks to clients in Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay. This marks the company’s initial venture into the Latin American market with its zero-exhaust emission trucks.

Volvo Trucks is expanding its global presence with its battery-electric trucks. The company recently made its first deliveries of heavy-duty electric trucks to Latin America, reaching customers in Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay. This expansion means Volvo has now provided electric trucks to clients across six continents and in 45 countries. The orders reflect a growing trend among transportation companies in these nations towards adopting more sustainable heavy transport solutions. Notably, Brazil is a significant market for Volvo Trucks, where it supplied 26,159 trucks in 2022.

Wilson Lirmann, President of Volvo Trucks Latin America, expressed pride and excitement in supporting their customers’ electrification initiatives, anticipating more transport companies will soon join the movement.

In Brazil, Reiter Log, a major logistics operator, will start using five Volvo FM Electric vehicles leased through Volvo Financial Services across different routes. Meanwhile, in Chile, SQM and El Libertador have each started operating one Volvo FH Electric truck. In Uruguay, Bitafal has also begun using a Volvo FM Electric.

The electric models of Volvo FH and Volvo FM are capable of handling a total weight of 44 tonnes and can travel up to 300 kilometres on a full charge.

Since starting serial production of electric trucks in 2019, Volvo Trucks has introduced a comprehensive range of six electric trucks. These vehicles are suitable for various transport needs, including city distribution, refuse handling, regional transport, and construction work. Volvo Trucks aims for electric models to constitute 50% of its global new truck sales by 2030.
