Thursday, January 09, 2014: Tektronix, Inc., a leading worldwide provider of test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation, today announced that the PA4000 Power Analyzer has earned 2013 Product of the Year honors from Electronics Products Magazine. Featuring patented Spiral Shunt technology for more consistent current measurements, the new PA4000 was the only test and measurement product included among the 15 awards handed out this year by the magazine.

With the emergence of new power conversion technologies, engineers have struggled to perform critical current measurements with the necessary degree of precision and accuracy. The Spiral Shunt used in the PA4000 offer superior stability compared to other shunt technologies and contributes to the instrument’s accuracy and repeatability over highly variable signal conditions. The spiral construction also minimizes stray inductance and provides high overload capability and improved thermal stability.

The editors of Electronic Products evaluated thousands of products launched in 2013. The winning products were selected on the basis of innovative design, significant advancement in technology or application and substantial achievement in price and performance.

“In today’s electronic designs, power is a major issue,” notes Richard Comerford, Electronic Products Magazine’s Editor for Test and Measurement, “so engineers are looking for advanced power analysis tools that can keep up with consumer demand, changing technologies, government regulations…and the added workload they present! Last year Tektronix entered this realm for the first time, and did so with an instrument that sets new measurement standards for precision, accuracy, and efficiency. And not only is the PA4000 analyzer able to check conformance to current regulatory standards, it also has the capacity to handle future ones as well.”

The PA4000, along with the follow-on PA1000 Power Analyzer, represented an extension of the Tektronix and Keithley portfolio of existing power test offerings to give engineers an end-to-end solution for power testing. Combined with ease-of-use, application-specific test modes and a full set of standard features including communication interfaces and PC-based software, the PA4000 is rapidly emerging as the industry’s power analyzer of choice.

“We are honored to be recognized by Electronic Products for our contributions in advancing the state-of-the-art in power and current test and measurement,” said Curt Willener, general manager, Power Analyzer Product Line, Tektronix. “Highly accurate power, energy and efficiency measurements are critical to meeting government regulations and customer requirements. With the PA4000, engineers can be assured of much greater measurement accuracy in all types of measurement environments than possible with existing instrumentation.”
