Czech-Republic based automaker, SKODA has launched a 980 KW advanced solar power generation project at its Aurangabad-based production facility. The project is part of its INDIA 2.0 project, a green initiative to contribute to India’s reduced carbon dioxide emissions.

Gurpratap Boparai, MD, SKODA Auto India considers the move as enhancing its Green Future vision. He said, “The installation of the Advanced Solar Power Generation Project at our production facility in Aurangabad reinforces our commitment towards building a ‘GREEN FUTURE’. We have taken a small but significant step towards contributing to India’s commitment to the world in reducing carbon footprint.”

Adding that the company would endeavour to implement more environmentally sustainable projects in the future, he shared the vision of reducing the negative impact of SKODA’s manufacturing operations in India.

It plans to cover around 30 per cent of the annual energy consumption by producing 1475 MWh of power, which, in turn, will help in cutting down almost 922 tonnes carbon dioxide emission per annum.

This project aims for sustainable development, carbon reduction and cost optimisation, thereby contribute to India’s solar dream. Setting up of solar panels at production facilities further promotes the concept of green energy and installation of rooftop solutions across the country.

SKODA AUTO has been operating in India since 2001. It has a network of around 68 sales and 67 service outlets in the country. Walmart India, Microsoft and several other private and government organisations adopted the solar method of power generation in India. According to Mercom, India completed the installation of about 2.5 GW of solar panels by August 2018.
