Odisha now adamant on ICT policy execution

ictpolicyFriday, March 28, 2014: The Odisha state IT department has asked Odisha Computer Application Centre (OCAC) to develop project implementation unit (PIU), for state to best use the opportunities that expand through the newly formed ICT policy. The information and communication technology (ICT) Policy 2014 intends to play the catalytic role in pushing the development process forward and boosting the efficiency of the increasingly integrated global economy, as described in the policy brochure.

For better implementation, PIU will employ the ICT policy with various incentives and concessions available under it. OCAC is the state agency that will be responsible for execution of ICT 2014 policy. According to a Business Standard report, Satyabrata Ray, deputy secretary, IT department wrote, “The IT and ESDM promotion cell of OCAC would be converted to PIU with induction of specialists in the field of management, technology and finance,” in a request letter to general manager, OCAC.

The ICT aims a Rs 240 billion turnover by the year 2020, which includes exports of software and IT services, ESDM (Electronic System Design & Manufacturing), domestic consumption and training. Furthermore, it will give direct employment to 60,000 professionals in 800 IT/ITes/ESDM units. It will develop a 2,000 acre developmental space for 10 new leading IT/ITes and five ESDM companies to build their set-up.

Specifically for the ESDM sector, the policy has allotted a space of Rs 188 billion revenue in Odisha by 2024, which is a far reached target and demands an investment of Rs 73.4 billion in three phases.
