Tata BP completes solar PV plant
Tata BP Solar Ltd., India’s third-largest solar panel maker, completed a 1-megawatt solar power plant in Orissa state in the eastern part of the country. The company, jointly owned by BP Plc and Tata Power Co, supplied and installed the photovoltaic project in Patapur. The project owner is S.N. Mohanty, Tata BP Solar said in an e-mailed statement.

Lighting Science-Dixon Technologies partnership
Dixon Technologies India Pvt. Ltd and Lighting Science Group announced a manufacturing/distribution partnership to launch a pioneering full range of LED lighting solutions in India. The Lighting Science Group/Dixon Technologies products, including street lights, outdoor and industrial light fixtures and replacement bulbs, will set a new standard for lighting product performance, producing more light for less energy than any similar products currently available in India. At a press conference, the companies demonstrated one of their first joint products: a high-performance, sub- Rs. 675, 60-watt equivalent omnidirectional A19 LED bulb that will be available in India later this year and will be sold worldwide by Lighting Science Group early next year.

Tektronix offers first mixed domain oscilloscope
Tektronix, one of the world’s leading manufacturer of oscilloscopes, introduced the world’s first mixed domain oscilloscope (MDO) that delivers the functionality of an oscilloscope and a spectrum analyzer in a single instrument. Solar powered $72 tablet PC from Bharat Electronics Ltd
Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) is expanding its non-defence or civilian businesses. The PSU major, which is the leading supplier of radar, communication and electronic warfare equipments to the armed forces, is foraying into areas like tablet PCs and solar energy.  Earlier, it designed a tablet PC costing $72 that will be used by the rural development ministry to conduct a census study on people below the poverty line.

Freescale tops networking processors market
Freescale Semiconductor is the market leader in wired and wireless communications processors, according to analyst firm Gartner. With 53 per cent of the market in 2010, Freescale is ahead of its closest competitor by more than 40 per cent. Freescale continues to maintain its strength in communications processors, growing market share year over year from 2009 to 2010. The industry’s rapid adoption of Freescale’s multicore QorIQ products played a key role in the leadership expansion.

Schneider Electric India bags Rs 1100 million orders
Schneider Electric India has bagged orders worth Rs 1100 million to supply turnkey solutions for three photovoltaic solar power plants in India. The plants have a combined capacity of 22.3-mw. The orders comprise of two 5-mw photovoltaic solar power plants and one 12.3-mw photovoltaic solar power plant. The plants will have annual generating capacity of up to 35 gigawatt-hours of electricity.

Cadence appoints new channel partner in India
Cadence Design Systems (India) Pvt Ltd. announced that FTD Automation Pvt. Ltd. (FTD) has been appointed as the Cadence Channel Partner in India as a value-added reseller (VAR). FTD is now the only authorized distributor of Cadence OrCAD products in India. FTD will distribute the Cadence OrCAD design suite and also provide strong localized technical support and training for current Cadence OrCAD users.

Compuage appointed as exclusive distributor for Foxconn products
Compuage Infocom Ltd has been appointed the exclusive distributor for Foxconn’s products.  Foxconn is the largest OEM manufacturer in the world, with a customer base that includes Apple, Sony, Intel, Nokia, HP, Acer and Dell. Currently it has more than 1 million employees worldwide with annual sales revenue of over US$ 100 billion. It is also the foremost provider of joint-design, joint-development, manufacturing, assembly and after-sales services to ‘Computer, Communication and Consumer-electronics’ .

element14 doubles its semicon portfolio in Asia Pacific
element14 (formerly Farnell )announced that it has doubled its portfolio of semiconductor components of its inventory of 130,000 electronic products. element14 now stocks the broadest range of semiconductor integrated circuits in Asia Pacific from leading semiconductor specialists such as Texas Instruments, Analog Devices, National Semiconductor, ST Microelectronics, Microchip and Freescale Semiconductor. According to research firm Gartner, the worldwide semiconductor capital equipment spending is expected to reach S$44.8 billion in 2011, which is a 10.2 percent increase from 2010.

GlacialLight’s LED panel lights Lower bill by 61%
GlacialLight announced that their well-designed, environmentally-friendly lines of LED lighting products provide users with energy-saving light of the highest quality. In the Taiwanese city of Kaohsiung, Marrons Cake Factory has seen a 61% reduction in energy used for lighting, as well as better light quality. Consumers around the world are reporting energy savings and increases in lighting quality.

Murata and Renesas sign agreement
Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. and Renesas Electronics Corporation announced that they signed a basic agreement to transfer Renesas Electronics’ high-power amplifier business and its manufacturing site, the Nagano Device Division (Komoro, Nagano) of Renesas Eastern Japan Semiconductor, Inc. to Murata Manufacturing. The companies plan to conclude a definitive agreement of this business transfer, which is scheduled to be completed by January 1, 2012.

Emerson announces new incentive plans
Emerson Network Power announced the ‘Liebert Warrior Program 2.0’ and ‘We Care’ channel schemes designed to extend incentives to the workforce of its 70+ Enterprise Business Partners and 40+ Network Solution Providers in India. The ‘Liebert Warrior Program 2.0’ will reward sales representatives of EBPs and NSPs who achieve pre-defined sales targets, while service representatives will be incentivized under ‘We Care’ for closing deals with existing customers during service visits.

Philips makes highest efficiency LED bulb
Philips has won a category in the US government’s competition to demonstrate the highest efficiency high quality lighting. The Philips bulb hit 910 lm, 9.7W, 93.4 lm/W, 2,727 K and CRI=93. Submitted in 2009, the LED bulb completed 18 months of field, lab, and product testing to meet the requirements of the L Prize competition. If every 60W incandescent bulb in the US was replaced with the 10W winner, the nation would save about 35TWh of electricity, or $3.9bn in one year, and avoid 20 million tonnes of carbon emissions.
