On Tuesday, Mahindra Auto unveiled the highly anticipated Thar.e, the newest addition to its lineup of sports utility vehicles (SUVs), during the ‘FutureScape’ event held in Cape Town, South Africa. Details such as the product’s pricing and availability for purchase were not revealed during the event.

Powered by an AWD electric powertrain and built on the innovative INGLO-born electric platform, the Thar.e stands out with an extended wheelbase and reduced overhangs. Designed for off-roading excellence, the Thar.e boasts features like elevated ground clearance and a shared battery. Its adaptability shines through modular and swappable components, setting a new standard.

In a noteworthy statement, Mahindra Auto expressed that the Thar.e exemplifies “sustainability in action,” having incorporated “50 percent recycled PET and recyclable uncoated plastics” into its construction.

When it comes to design, thoughtful elements such as a central pivoting screen, sturdy grab handles, and an uncluttered layout underscore the Thar.e’s practicality for urban and off-road journeys. The vehicle’s exterior boasts “crisp, geometric surfaces” and cleverly designed “near-vertical windows that maximize space,” as highlighted by the company.

Addressing their broader electrification vision, Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director of Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), shared that they have plans to electrify all of their ICE brands over time. While Thar.e stands as a concept today, Bolero.e and Scorpio.e are on the horizon.

Veejay Nakra, President of the Automotive Sector at M&M, commented that the Vision Thar.e showcases innovation and a pioneering design philosophy that is distinctly Mahindra and globally relevant. His emphasis on sustainable materials aligns perfectly with the growing global trend towards responsible consumption and environmental positivity.

Pratap Bose, Chief Design Officer at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., expressed that the creation of Vision Thar.e involves embracing a future marked by bold innovation. Their design paves a new path, standing as evidence of Mahindra’s unswerving commitment to cutting-edge creativity and pioneering thought. While preserving the adventurous spirit and off-road capabilities inherent in the Thar, they have sculpted a distinct identity within the domain of electric SUVs. This effort goes beyond the mere development of another off-road vehicle; it shapes a vision that embodies a progressive step in automotive design, all while remaining rooted in their origins.
