solar pumpFriday, January 02, 2015: Solar power is in huge focus for the Haryana government and with this New Year, the government has decided to push solar power in the country. Now it has been made compulsory that all the buildings which have been set up on plot size of 500 square yards or more should have rooftop solar systems by September this year.

The order will be applied across private bungalows, housing societies, building apartments, malls, offices, commercial complexes, schools and hospitals and any other new building. 30 per cent subsidy will be offered on the installation costs by the government and that too on “a first-come-first-serve” basis, which means that it all depends on the availability of funds. The department of renewable energy has passed the order and it’s in line with the state’s solar power policy.

The implementation of this policy will be highly useful for zones like Gurgaon which are in high demand of power. Minimum 1KW solar power capacity is to be installed, or a building’s 5 per cent of the connected load, whichever is measured higher. A 1KW plant can also generate up to 4.5 units electricity each day which can actually power three fans, seven tubelights and a cooler too, as revealed by Sandeep Yadav, who is the project officer of the state’s department of renewable energy.

If the solar panels are not installed by September, then penalties could be imposed up to Rs 10,000 to Rs 10 lakh. The implementation officers will be the additional deputy commissioners (ADC) of all districts in Haryana. Vinay Pratap Singh, ADC Gurgaon, said that as electricity demand is continuously increasing in cities like Gurgaon, this policy needs to be implemented. Yadav also said that the modalities of the connecting rooftop panels with the power grid have been worked out through the net-metering system.
