A major investment call
Understanding that Uttar Pradesh is a key market, Haier is investing INR 3069 crores in UP government’s project to set up its second industrial park in Greater Noida. Followed by the company’s first manufacturing plant at Ranjangaon in Pune, the new plant is a part of Haier India’s strategy to meet the rising demand of consumers and generate job opportunities in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

Several interactive sessions, round tables and meetings followed the foundation ceremony where industrialists discussed potential opportunities in various sectors and India’s tremendous growth towards ‘Make in India’. The session on “Investment Opportunities in Electronics Manufacturing” was moderated by Alok Sinha, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of IT & Electronics, Government of Uttar Pradesh and focused on the growing electronic industry in UP and its future in making the state a manufacturing hub for electronic equipment.

Haier’s take on the investment
During the session, Eric Braganza, President, Haier Appliances India Pvt Ltd, presented his views on the growing potential of the Internet of Things (IoT) in the Indian market and Haier’s commitment towards Research and Development (R&D) for paving the way for the future of home appliances in India. He further focused on the impact of new-age technologies which are shaping the reality for smart homes and the government’s proposed vision of 100 smart cities out of which 11 major smart cities are from UP.

Commenting on the occasion, Braganza said, “We congratulate the government of Uttar Pradesh for holding the second ground-breaking ceremony and appreciate its vision to make UP a $1 trillion economy in the coming years. Haier India is pleased to be a part of Uttar Pradesh’s journey towards becoming a global manufacturing hub thereby generating employment in the state. We are committed towards the government’s initiatives and delivering best-in-class innovations to our customers.”

What’s on the agenda?
With the second industrial park, Haier aims to scale up the production capacity of categories like refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, LED panels, and water heaters. Once functional, the new industrial park in Greater Noida will hold an annual capacity to produce two million units of refrigerators, one million units each of LED TVs, washing machines and air conditioners.

It will further generate around 4,000 new direct employment opportunities along with over 10,000 indirect jobs in the country. Offering an opportunity for vendors and OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) to scale up and bring about an expanded business with increased local production and lesser dependence on imports.
