Andhra Pradesh sets a goal of 5GW of rooftop solar energy

solar policyJanuary 27, 2015: Andhra Pradesh is all set to participate in a big way to promote central government’s plans to promote solar energy. The state has set a goal of 5000MW of roof-top solar energy generation over the period of five years.

Of the total 100GW solar energy generation by 2022, set by Indian government, nearly 40GW is to be achieved by setting up roof-top solar projects. Keeping this target in mind, New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP) is promoting all domestic, commercial, industrial and government buildings to install solar power panels.

According to a report by The Hindu, NREDCAP has also inked an MoU with Gujarat Energy Research and Management Institute to train you from AP, to have skilled manpower. This would include, youth who hold diploma degrees from ITI or have completed SSC. These youngsters will be eligible for national certification course on solar roof top installation.

NREDCAP will be asking the state government to instruct all government offices to start the project. According to the corporation, nearly 50 per cent of the energy could be saved if solar energy is installed.

The creation of solar army is in sync with the ‘Skilling India’ mission, which aims to train 500 million people by 2022 and make them job-ready, the government will train 50,000 people to be a part of the solar initiative. The training will be imparted to these people across various fields within the solar energy domain. This way, the government plans to build up a workforce dedicated to solar energy generation and also create job opportunities.

According to a report by National Institute Of Solar Energy (NISE), Andhra Pradesh has a solar energy capacity of 38.44GW, thus calling for installation of larger capacities moving forward.
