The Approved Models and Manufacturers of Solar Photovoltaic Modules (ALMM) Order, aimed at ensuring high-quality standards in solar projects, will now be implemented.

In a recent update from the Indian renewable energy sector, the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) has issued a memorandum, numbered 283/16/2023-GRID SOLAR, dated 29th March 2024, announcing important changes for solar photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturers. The memorandum states that the Approved Models and Manufacturers of Solar Photovoltaic Modules (Requirements for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2019 (ALMM Order), which was previously put on hold for the fiscal year 2023-24, will now be implemented from 1st April 2024.

The ALMM list aims to ensure the quality of solar modules used in various projects across the country by streamlining the adoption of approved solar module models and manufacturers. According to the memorandum, solar PV modules that have been received at project sites by 31st March 2024 but are yet to be commissioned due to reasons beyond the control of the renewable power developer will undergo separate examination.

The decision to implement the ALMM Order has been made with the approval of the Honorable Minister of Power & Renewable Energy. This policy update is seen as a step to reinforce India’s commitment to expanding its renewable energy infrastructure while maintaining high standards for the equipment used.

The MNRE has instructed that the memorandum be circulated to all relevant parties and has also requested the Director (Technical), NIC, MNRE, to ensure that it is uploaded to the MNRE website for public access. This move is part of the government’s efforts to maintain transparency and communication with stakeholders in the solar energy sector, reflecting India’s ongoing dedication to sustainable and quality-driven renewable energy development.
