Rs 75 Cr Research Tech Park Inaugurated at IIT Hyderabad

The Rs 750 million (US$10 million) park was funded by the Union Ministry of Education. The research park will look to collaborate and work with national as well as international companies

The Indian Institute of Technology in Hyderabad (IIT-Hyderabad), in the state of Telangana, has inaugurated a approx. 150,000 square foot Technology Research Park last Saturday. The aim of the technology park is to help bridge the gap between industry and academia. This park will be providing infrastructure and facilities for industry partners to set up research and technology development centres on the IIT-Hyderabad campus.

“The government of India is committed to technological development as presented by the Union finance minister during budget, 2022. Hyderabad is a very vibrant entrepreneur ecosystem. These TRP and TIP (Technology Incubation Park) buildings are testimonial facilities for those who can’t work from home,” said Srivari Chandrasekhar, secretary, Department of Science & Technology, Government of India (GoI) during the inaufuration.

The Rs 750 million (US$10 million) park was funded by the Union Ministry of Education. The park consists of 11 towers connected with corridors and a laboratory complex comprising seven footprint blockss. Chandrasekhar stated that the government of India is committed to technological development of the country. He pointed towards Hyderabad as a city full of vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem. The research park will look to collaborate and work with national as well as international companies

Focus on academia and electronics

The Ministry of Electronics and Information (MeitY) has recently sought applications from 100 academia, R&D organisations, start-ups and MSMEs under its Chips to Startup (C2S) Programme. The Chips to Startup (C2S) Programme aims to train 85,000 number of high-quality and qualified engineers in the area of very large-scale integration (VLSI) and embedded system design as well as result in development of 175 ASICs (Application Specific Integrated Circuits), working prototypes of 20 System on Chips (SoC) and IP Core repository over a period of five years.

The programme is planned to be implemented at about 100 academic institutions/R&D organisations across the country (including IITs, NITs, IIITs, Government/Private Colleges and R&D Organisations). Startups and MSMEs can also participate in the programme by submitting their proposals under academia-industry collaborative project, grand challenge/hackathons/RFP for development of System/SoC/IP Core(s).
