Dana has 18 plants in India, the latest being its electric vehicle (EV) drivetrain manufacturing facility located at Pune

America-based automotive components maker and supplier has noted that its India located facilities are running 24*7. This is at a time when the most of other facilities are sitting on excess capacity.

Gajanan Gandhe, country head, Dana India, in an interaction with the Economic Times, noted that the company is expecting the Indian market to account for 10per cent of its global revenue in the near future.

““We have now reached a fairly large scale and India is a significant part of our global operations. We don’t have enough capacity. In spite of COVID our plans have been running 24 by seven,” Gandhe was quoted saying by ET.

The company, as per the report, has already invested $50 million in increasing capacity across its facilities in India. Dana has 18 plants in India, the latest being its electric vehicle (EV) drivetrain manufacturing facility located at Pune.

It has also recently collaborated with Ashok Leyland’s EV arm Switch Moblity and has invested close to $18 million in the same. Under the terms of the agreement, Dana will make a strategic investment in Switch Mobility and become a preferred supplier of electric drivetrain components for the company’s e-bus and EV commercial vehicle offering, providing e-Axles, gearboxes, motors, inverters, software and controls, and electronics cooling.

In the two-wheeler EV segment, which as Gandhe noted to be one of the fastest growing EV segments, Dana will focus only on developing and manufacturing drivetrains for high-end performance electric motorcycles. The company also has plans to not enter the high volume affordable electric scooters segment. Dana noted there’s too much competition in that space.

“Light commercial vehicles and buses continue to present significant opportunities as they lead the commercial-vehicle segment’s shift to fully electrified platforms. We are pleased to extend our relationships with our long-standing customers, Ashok Leyland and Switch Mobility, as they continue to grow and implement their next-generation, road-proven technology that will enable a direct, positive impact on delivering sustainable urban e-mobility,”Dana Chairman and CEO had siad recently.
