11 Lakh MSMEs Registered Since First July 2020: MSME Ministry

The Ministry of MSME had revised the definition of MSMEs and process of registration w.e.f. first July 2020

New online system of MSME/Udyam Registration launched by Union MSME Ministry, w.e.f. first July, 2020, has registered more than 11 lakh MSMEs. All these new MSMEs have successfully registered themselves by now.

The Ministry of MSME had revised the definition of MSMEs and process of registration w.e.f. first July 2020. It had also launched a new portal for MSME/Udyam registration (https://udyamregistration.gov.in).

“Since then, the portal is working smoothly. In a major first, this portal is seamlessly integrated with CBDT and GST networks as also with the GeM. It may be noted that through this integration, now MSME registration is a totally paperless exercise,” read ministry’s official press note.

It continued .” Ministry has instructed all of its Field Establishments such as MSME-Development Institutes, MSME Technology Centers, NSIC, KVIC, Coir Board to extend full support to entrepreneurs for Udyam Registration. Similarly, all District Magistrates and District Industries Centers have been requested to expedite registration by the MSMEs. Grievances of MSMEs relating to registration are being handled by CHAMPIONS’ platform through its network of Central Control Room and 68 State Control Rooms across the country.”

Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat leading states

It is to be noted here that around 3.72 lakh enterprises have registered under the manufacturing category whereas 6.31 lakh enterprises under service sector. The share of micro enterprises is 93.17 per cent whereas small and medium enterprises are 5.62 per cent and 1.21 per cent respectively. The five leading States for Udyam registrations are Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat.

The government of India is taking steps to create 500 champion MSMEs in the electronics sector. This information was revealed by Saurabh Gaur, IAS, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, Government of India , during a webinar of MVIRDC Research Study on ‘Promoting Electronic Manufacturing’.

Gaur mentioning about the success India has had in terms of mobile manufacturing noted that the government is keen on repeating the same success in field of laptops, tablets, notebooks and servers. India, as noted by Gaur, will soon join the league of China and Vietnam in terms of leading mobile phone exporters of the world. It is to be noted here that these export smartphones worth USD 140 billion and USD 60 billion, respectively.
