SM Auto Teams Up With Gotech Energy To Make EV Battery Packs And BMS For The Indian Market

partnershipPune-based SM Auto Engineering Pvt Ltd (SMA) has announced a technical collaboration with Taiwan-based Gotech Energy Co Ltd (GTE) to design, , develop and manufacture advanced battery packs and battery management systems for the Indian two-, three- and four- wheeler electric vehicle (EV) market along with use for Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) and stationary applications. They will also provide powertrain integration services.
SMA and GTE will set up their first state-of-the-art plant in Pune. It is aimed to be ready by the second quarter of calendar year 2021.

Sanjay Chopda, managing director, SMA added that EVs will play an important role in the coming future and India will be at the forefront of EV adoption. He added that the company sees strong growth prospects in the EV sector and a need for providing customers with reliable and high- quality EV components. To achieve this, the company knew it has to manufacture locally and have the right technology provider. GTE has a solid technical base and that, with the strengths of SMA, will help the company be a top-notch supplier. The plant in Pune will be a real testament to the ‘Make-in-India’ vision.

Supreme Group of Taiwan

Founded in 2010, GTE is a part of the $4-billion electronic giant Supreme Group of Taiwan now. Other than battery pack designing, it designs and manufactures battery management systems with cloud management systems to fully connect to smart charging stations/swapping stations.

GTE chairman Jackson Ka and managing director, Allen Chang, together said that the Indian EV market is in a nascent phase. The Indian government’s push towards electrification with relevant policies will propel the market to grow. They added that by co-operating with SMA, the expert in automotive industry, they have full confidence to extend the EV business in India together.”
