According to a recent report by ET, a committee has been formed by the government to resolve differences between the Niti Aayog and the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) over the Artificial Intelligence (AI) project.
A top official told the news daily that a panel has been formed to resolve the overlaps between Niti Aayog’s and Meity’s plans for AI. The committee will be headed by principal scientific advisor K VijayRaghavan and represented by the secretary in the department of science and technology, the CEO of Niti Aayog and secretary of MeitY.
What to expect?
The official further stated that the committee is tasked with rooting out duplication of work between various government arms, while clearly specifying the role of different agencies to fast-track the implementation of the AI mission.
Earlier this year, NITI Aayog announced it is pushing for the government to invest in ₹7,500 crores for the development of a cloud computing platform called AIRAWAT.
The proposal’s funding will be used to set up five institutes or centres of research excellence (CORE), twenty international centres for transformational AI (ICTAI), and AIRAWAT, the cloud computing platform that can be accessed by anyone.
