P&H Joy Mining Equipment India, an arm of the $5.5 billion Joy Global Inc US, will put up its manufacturing and servicing facility in the engineering and technology park of India’s first aerotropolis being developed by Bengal Aerotropolis Projects (BAPL) in the Asansol Durgapur Planning Area. P&H Joy and BAPL has signed a memorandum of understanding to this effect.

The proposed state of the art facility, aims at catering to P&H Joy’s customers across India. The company hopes that the facility will be ready for operations by 2013. Anirudha Gupta, director, P&H Joy Mining Equipment India, said that the company would invest nearly Rs 1.3 billion in the first phase to set up this facility.

“Over the years we have built a track record of a successful provider of valuable equipment and support to India’s mining industry. India’s mining sector seems well set to enter into a new era of highly intelligent, integrated, large scale equipment and operations. We therefore thought it wise to undertake a transition to this exciting new base of customer support operations in this country. The future is very bright for our industry, and our intention is to be well-positioned to evolve and support our industry going forward,” said Gupta.
