5G spectrum prices should be affordable for telecom operators for effective usage and proper deployment among the public and enterprises, Vishant Vora, chief technology officer, Vodafone Idea, was quoted saying. He added that the government’s 5G policy needed clarity.

5G price

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had earlier set the spectrum price at Rs 492 crore per unit to be sold in block sizes of 20 MHz in the next auction. According to Gopal Vittal, Bharti Airtel CEO for India, South Asia, TRAI’s recommended price was ten times higher in comparison to digitally-advanced countries like Korea and Spain. The next spectrum auction of 8,293 Mhz units includes frequency bands in the 3300-3600 Mhz range.

The Vodafone Idea CTO suggested that the government should extend support for 5G in the 41 or 2600 Mhz band.

Vodafone Idea network

The new merged telecom major is working on the integration of the separate networks of the two mobile networks. The merging aims to provide better coverage and network capacity with the lowest latency. Vodafone Idea has been investing in the infrastructure to achieve its network goals.

India has been pushing for deploying 5G network and telecom majors have been betting on the new-age technology for their respective innovations and business expansions. Industry experts have been suggesting lower prices for higher and faster adoption of 5G in India.

Vodafone Idea, reportedly, is in talks with major equipment makers to boost the wireless network.
