India’s largest aerospace company Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) is planning to invest Rs 2 billion in its strategic electronics manufacturing unit in Kerala, according to a report.
The unit has been set up on 200 acres of land at Kinfra Industrial Park at Seethangoli in Kasargod district of Kerala and is ready for inauguration. The new facility may be later converted into a full-fledged division in future. The land for the new electronics manufacturing unit has been provided by the Kerala government on a 99-year lease. Currently HAL has 19 production units and nine R&D centers at seven locations in India.
The HAL’s Avionics division manufactures a variety of electronic equipment covering areas of communication, navigation, radar, computers and electronic warfare.
The division supplies these products for various aircraft and helicopters being supplied by HAL to the Armed Forces. The electronics manufacturing unit is an extension of the Hyderabad-based Avionics division of HAL.
