Aruna Sundararajan, secretary, Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY) while expressing her views about the Indian Electronics System  Design and Manufacturing  ( ESDM) industry at the ELCINA-EFY Award ceremony 2016, announced 8 core initiatives which will be undertaken by MeitY to boost further growth of ESDM industry. She also mentioned about her discussion with senior level representatives from DIPP, NITI Aayog and DoT for creating an enabling framework for the ESDM industry through these 8 core initiatives . These 8 core initiatives include

  1. Ease of doing business starting from national to state level even in some cases including municipality level through a strong and dedicated campaign to explain the strategic importance of this sector among state level regulators
  2. Strengthening  of the ecosystem by addressing the gap areas with respect to regulatory simplification, support etc.
  3. Addressing the infrastructural inadequacy in a focused manner
  4. Creation of a meaningful incentive framework over and above the existing one
  5. Sustained campaign for promotion in abroad as a part of overall India advantage Indian initiative
  6. Promotion of  R&D capacity of the country in the ESDM sector
  7. Dedicated hand holding mechanism to strengthen partnership with Industry through various stakeholders
  8. Crafting of policy frameworks specifically in some emerging areas like IoT

She strongly believes that the Indian ESDM industry is going to be a major contributor for the ‘Make in India’ and will continue to take the India  advantage story forward. She mentioned ” Today the electronics industry has began to be a sector of central importance not only to MeitY but also for the larger Make in India perspective.” She also said that this industry has grown not because of the government but despite the government.

While expressing her views on the widespread geographical area that has been a part of the changing electronics industry worldwide, she also mentioned about her excitement to see the Indian electronics industry’s international footprint gradually with the changing time.
