Telangana upbeat about solar power

January 30, 2015: The state of Telangana is highly driven on playing its part in turning most of its parts running under the cost-effective solar technology. The Projects & Equipment Corporation of India Ltd is building a 100KW roof-top solar power plant under the net metering programme. This comes across as a step towards making the Telangana State Pollution Control Board completely solar. Latest reports revealed that V Anil Kumar, member secretary, Telangana State Pollution Control Board, commented on this initiative saying, “Presently the power bill per month comes close to Rs 0.2 million. As per the calculations, we would be able to get the return on investment in six years.”

While the total cost of the project is around Rs 7.9 million, the board has paid a sum of around Rs 5.5 million to Telangana New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation (TNREDC), the nodal agency in the state. The Telangana State Pollution Control Board is expecting a subsidy of Rs 1.5 million to Rs 2.4 million from the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India.

Internal sources from the board have revealed that dual meter would put to use and the energy harnessed on Sundays and other holidays would bring down the consumption significantly. The Gandhi, Osmania and Fever hospitals are already equipped with solar power of 500KW, 40KW and 100KW respectively. Besides these, the positive impact of solar power has also spread its wings far and wide and is soon catching up with areas all across the state. The Salar Jung Museum already showcases a fine example of this as it has also decided to install a 500KW solar power plant with plans to start its operations in the next three months. By doing this, the museum targets to save a sum of Rs 0.7 million in a month.
