manufacturingMonday, June 30, 2014: Maharashtra is taking electronics manufacturing a tad too seriously. In the latest, the state plans to set up three brown field electronic manufacturing clusters (EMC), each of which will involve an investment of Rs 1000 million.

One of the three electronics clusters will come up in Pune, in which the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA), is playing a key role.

IESA has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA) for collaboration under the Electronics Manufacturing Clusters Scheme of the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), Government of India.

“Pune has successfully established itself as the engineering hub for the automotive sector and got enormous industrial potential to be the next manufacturing hub of India. MCCIA is thrilled to have IESA onboard for the Brownfield EMC set up in Pune and envisions the ESDM sector to achieve the same zenith of success,” said Anant Sardeshmukh, Director General, MCCIA.

The clusters will focus on several domains of electronics manufacturing including auto electronics, defence electronics, instrumentation and agriculture. Some of the facilities included in the cluster are test and measurement, prototyping and calibration, that are expected to benefit over 500 companies in and around Pune.

Speaking about the same, Anabalgan, joint CEO, Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation, said, “The State government has identified electronic system design and manufacturing (ESDM) as a sector of focus and decided to set up three brown field EMCs at Pune, Aurangabad and Navi Mumbai.” The EMC projects will be implemented by an SPV.

“The state government has identified ESDM as a sector of focus. As one of the salient initiatives in this direction, the state has decided to set up three brownfield EMCs at Pune, Aurangabad and Navi Mumbai. The EMC will provide common facilities for production and R&D support services which will benefit the local companies. Besides the funding support available from DeitY, under its EMC Scheme, the state will also extend its proactive support to enable these clusters to be set up at the earliest,” he said.
