Solar PVWednesday, March 05, 2014: With the global need of clean and green energy, many new initiatives are needed to employ the resources at best use. This demands specialised study on the subject. SunEdison, a solar energy producer, has joined efforts with a Bangalore-based Global Academy of Technology (GAT), to improve and bring new technology and implementations, by way of a new R&D technology facility in Karnataka’s capital city.

SunEdison will collaborate with GAT, a Bangalore based government study college to establish a research and development facility, which will focus to improve technology for solar water pumps, energy storage solutions, hybrid energy systems and PV power plant monitoring and mounting structures. SunEdison is one of the largest photovoltaic (PV) energy provider that, recently, bagged some huge solar power projects across the nation.

In a Tech.org report, DK Shiva Kumar, the minister of power for Karnataka and also chairman of the National Education Foundation (NEF) said, “Having the SunEdison R&D facility at GAT provides our students the opportunity to extend their academic experience into industry. They’ll be conducting research with scientists and engineers from one of the world’s leading solar companies giving them a unique experience that will prepare them for successful careers.”

To second the words of Kumar, the president of SunEdison (Asia Pacific, GCC and South Africa), Pashupathy Gopalan, said, “By placing students side by side with industry leaders their education will extend beyond theoretical application of concepts to real-world implementations.” The facility will also support SunEdison’s commitment to supporting education and developing the next-generation of PV professionals.
