Monday, March 03, 2014: To empower the under developed areas with a no-cost fuel power, the government of northern state of Jammu and Kashmir is in the ongoing process of awarding 36,891 solar home-lights along with street lights in 299 villages and hamlets across the state.
According to a Business Standard report, the Minister of State for Science and Technology, Feroz Ahmed said that 244 villages and 15 hamlets have been given solar home-lighting systems, during a span of last few years, in the state.
In the next financial year, 36 villages and 263 hamlets are listed to get 34,483 numbers of solar home-lights and 2,408 solar street lights. Ahmed confirmed the counts, in a written reply to the question by Ajat Shatru Singh, a NC member in the state Legislative Council, on Saturday.
Furthermore, Ahmed accounted that solar power plants are in process of being installed in 69 district and sub-district hospitals, 107 community information centres, BDO offices with many other educational institutions, and shrines of rural areas. Nearly 3 MW special power projects have been installed and 1,752 KW capacity will be installed after March, in the next financial year.
