India’s biggest solar power plant in MP

solar partsMonday, February 24, 2014: With the rise in clean energy favourability by the government of India, many state governments have also shown healthy initiatives to promote the environment friendly exercise. Now, India’s biggest solar power plant has reportedly been set-up in the Jawad tehsil of the Neemuch district, in the central state of Madhya Pradesh.

The state’s New and Renewable Energy minister, Rajendra Shukla, informed that an investment of Rs 11 billion was made for the project. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company and the state government, in regard to purchase of power from the project, said a Daily Pioneer report. The state government has established a deal with a private sector company, Wellspun Solar Private Limited in regard to the MoU.

The 130 MW solar power plant is successfully completed before its targeted time-limit. Shukla said that the project has been completed 8 months before schedule in phases, from August 2013 to December 2013. The state government granted 307 hectare non-agriculture unused land in the villages of Deeken, Bhagwanpura and Padaliya in Jawad tehsil.

The minister also said that the country’s major industrial houses and solar energy project investors have huge interest in that state, since there is abundance of the solar voltaic rays and also the state government’s solar project investment-friendly policy.

Madhya Pradesh has 54 solar power projects, of a total of 254 MW capacity. while, the total solar power generation capacity in Madhya Pradesh is expected to increase up to 354 MW by March, this year.

The New and Renewable Energy Department’s plans show that the solar power projects of 2000 MW capacity will be set up by year 2015, making Madhya Pradesh lead as the state with most solar energy projects.
