Wednesay, June 26, 2013: The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has come up with the statistics of the performance of various Solar Photovoltaic Plants installed in the country and the capacity utilisation factors (CUF) show a huge range of difference varying between 11 per cent and 31 per cent. The data was released this May 2013 for the plants coming under the Batch 1 & 2 of the Phase 1 installations governed by India’s National Solar Mission and along with the Rooftop Photovoltaic and Small Solar Power Generation Programme (PRSSPGP).

The data, however, reveals a sad state of affairs with some of the plants struggling with a CUF far below the norm of 18 per cent. The top performer, however, under the scheme is a plant developed by Navbharat Buildcon Pvt. Ltd. which shows a CUF of 26.21 per cent. However, the plants built under the National Solar Mission, Batch 2 of Phase 1 are performing remarkably well with an average CUF range from 19 per cent to 28 per cent. Nine of the total of 12 plants under this scheme have a CUF of more than 24 per cent. One of these plants is located in Rajasthan and another in Maharashtra.

The Batch 1 plants of the Phase 1 installations also showed a similar statistics with CUF ranging between 18 per cent and 31 per cent. Majority of the plants performed beyond 24 per cent CUF and the best performance was delivered by a plant developed by the Saidham Overseas Pvt. Ltd. A total of 94 plants were under scrutiny with most plants showing a slight increase in performance after April 2013.
