Tuesday, June 11, 2013:India’s manufacturing sector is set to take a giant leap, with the government announcing a slew of measures to boost domestic manufacturing. As a result, various companies catering to different sectors such as consumer electronics, telecom equipment, computers and solar energy are gearing up to expand their production facilities in India. With the government pushing the solar sector as well, many solar plants are also coming up in the country. Besides these, India is also witnessing the development of many testing centres and design houses.

Who will benefit ?

The setting up of new production facilities, solar plants, testing centres and design houses will also help in development of many other sectors like tools and equipment, test and measurement (T&M) devices, surface mount technology (SMT) and through-hole machines, components, chemicals and consumables, etc.

SGS Tekniks Manufacturing
Pvt Ltd (SGST)

SGS Tekniks (SGST) is setting up a new 7432.2sq m plant in Manesar, Haryana, which will start its operations by the year end. With an approximate investment of Rs 250 million, the company is setting up this new plant to expand its existing production capabilities. With this unit, the company plans to diversify into manufacturing LED lights, set-top boxes (STBs) and automotive electronics.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd
Deals in: Design, engineering, manufacture, construction, testing and commissioning of heavy electrical equipment. It also manufactures PV modules

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has partnered with Hindustan Salts Ltd (HSL) for the commissioning of Asia’s largest solar power generation facility on around 15,000 acres of land in Rajasthan. BHEL will be using HSL’s unused land for this plant, which is expected to generate 2500 MW of solar power. The proposal is being handled under the supervision of the Ministry of Heavy Industries. Both the companies will also set up a combined solar and wind power plant on 23,000 acres of land in Gujarat to generate 4000 MW of solar power.

BHEL’s electronics division (EDN) will set up an integrated manufacturing facility for ingots to wafers, cells and panels using crystalline photovoltaic technology. With an estimated investment of about Rs 8000 million, the company plans to expand its present capacity of 26 MW to 480 MW in two phases. The facility will be fully automated and will be the first of its kind in India.

Tata Power
Deals in: Power generation, transmission, distribution and trading (of thermal, hydro, wind and solar power)

Tata Power will set up a 28.8MW solar plant near Satara, its second solar plant in Maharashtra. With an investment of Rs 2300 million this fiscal year, it targets to generate 26,000 MW of solar power from its different plants by 2020. Tata Power has also partnered with Australia’s Sunengy to build the first floating solar plant at Mulshi, Maharashtra.

Jusung Engineering
Deals in: Developing and producing solar cell manufacturing equipment
Jusung Engineering, a Korean company, is setting up a solar cell and module manufacturing facility in Kerala. Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) has signed an MoU with Jusung Engineering. The cost of the project for the first phase is estimated to be Rs 5000 million. The proposed facility will manufacture solar cells and modules with dimension of 15.24 cm with 20 per cent efficiency and an annual capacity of about 100 MW in the first phase.
