UK Government and Industry Leaders Meet up to Boost Semiconductor Sector

Today, in a pivotal move to fortify the UK’s semiconductor industry, Technology Minister Paul Scully chaired the inaugural meeting of the government’s Semiconductor Advisory Panel. Comprising industry titans, including former Dialog CEO Jalal Bagherli, Janet Collyer – Senior Independent Director at EnSilica, Independent NED at the UK Aerospace Technology, Dr Eben Upton – CEO, Raspberry Pi, etc., and academic experts, the panel is tasked with enhancing domestic capabilities, ensuring chip supply, and safeguarding national security. This announcement also marks the launch of the UK’s first semiconductor design incubator, aimed at bolstering early-stage companies.

The newly formed panel boasts an impressive group of leaders from various facets of the industry, united with a common goal of strengthening the semiconductor sector. In parallel to the panel’s launch, the government revealed the pilot scheme of the nation’s first semiconductor design incubator. Silicon Catalyst. UK will run this nine-month program, providing technical and business support to UK-based semiconductor start-ups.

“The collaboration between government and industry is essential for the growth and resilience of our semiconductor sector,” Bagherli said, highlighting the panel’s key role.
