Ex-Tata Power Solar CEO joins ReNew Power as president of solar business

Ajay GoelMay 20, 2015: ReNew Power Ventures Pvt Ltd has appointed Ajay K Goel as president, solar and chief new businesses. In his current role, Goel will be responsible for building new businesses on the distributed side of the solar sector focusing on commercial, industrial and residential segments. This will entail creating end-to-end innovative solutions around multiple products, technologies and business models such as rooftop solar, energy efficiency, energy storage, among others.

Prior to joining ReNew Power, Goel was the CEO at Tata Power Solar, where he revived their cell and module manufacturing business as well as moved the company downstream in both central and distributed generation. Earlier, he spent 20 years in the United States gaining in-depth experience at leading high-tech and clean-tech companies such as SunEdison, Brightsource Energy and McKinsey where he helped them with strategy, new investments, product development and streamlining operations.

Commenting on the appointment, Sumant Sinha, chairman and CEO, ReNew Power, said, “As a company, ReNew Power is committed to providing value by innovating and expanding to new verticals that suit the India market. Commenting on his appointment, Goel said, “I am delighted to join ReNew Power, the leading renewable IPP in India. I have tremendous respect for the exponential growth that ReNew Power has achieved in a short span of time under the outstanding leadership of Sumant and I look forward to helping ReNew Power become the first name in Solar in India.”

Goel is an electrical and computer software engineer from Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi and holds an MBA from the University Of Chicago Booth School Of Business.
