The diode technology has improved significantly, resulting in high-power light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with a higher lumen output that are capable of replacing other light products. This has resulted in a wider application of LED lights in the retail and commercial space. The last few years have also seen a remarkable improvement in the efficacy of LED chips, packages and lamps, measured in terms of lumens emitted per watt (Lm/W) of electrical power consumed. The amount of light that can be extracted from one LED, commonly known as the lumen pack, is also rapidly approaching levels that make sense in practical lighting applications.
